Events & Classes

50 years ago, I had a colorful vision and a trunk full of dreams, to move to America and open a very special school. In 1968, my life long dream of founding my own school was realized in a small studio garage, on Brooks Street, in Laguna Beach. If it were not for the generous support and dedicated commitment of all our families, teachers, administrators, staff, and community, near and far, past and present, the Anneliese Schools would not be where it is today – a pioneering school that continues to set the exemplary standard for private, whole-child education.

On behalf of the Anneliese Schools and SEEDS Arts and Education, I am honored to invite you to join me in supporting and participating in the Anneliese Schools 1st Annual Passion Project.

The Passion Project is our schools’ vital, fundraising initiative. Creatively designed to showcase selective programs and specialized operations of the Anneliese Schools, the Passion Project highlights the colorful fibers that, together, contribute to the essence and spirit of what makes the Anneliese Schools such a special and magical place; where minds and hearts come alive with the wonder of learning, intelligences are carefully cultivated, lives are empowered, and true potentials are realized.

What fiber of the Anneliese Schools excites and inspires you? What program piques your curiosity and spurs your energy? What space fosters your well being and holds a special place in your heart and mind?

Explore our Passion Projects and choose where your donation dollars will be allocated. Will you and your family choose to help fund our Animal Care, Arts & Music, Athletics, Nourishment, Spaces of Beauty, and/or Technology? Donate to the Passion Project that represents what the Anneliese Schools means to you and your family.

Additionally, you have the opportunity to choose to receive a full tax deductible benefit, by contributing through our SEEDS Passion Project platform, or a partial tax deductible benefit, by shopping online at www.LIESAS.com.

LIESAS, our popular school store, has curated a ‘Gifts from the Heart Collection’ of coveted, specialty items, in compliment and promotion of the Passion Project. 100% of all proceeds go directly to the Anneliese Schools.

Thank you for choosing the Anneliese Schools for your child’s education and thank you, in advance, for donating to the Passion Project and supporting a school that inspires us all to live meaningful lives and make a positive difference in the world!

Yours truly, Anneliese Schimmelpfenning, Founder of the Anneliese Schools

Art Lab strives to diversify the educational experiences of kindergarten through eighth grade students by exposing them to all manner of creative specialists who will share expertise through workshops and experiential activities. Art and play lab provides a child centered environment for students who love to engage their imagination and creativity in a free, generative and joyful manner.

Based on the philosophy of inquiry based and self-directed learning, children will have opportunities to work with exceptional teachers and mentors, who will support and nurture their natural curiosity and interests. Children will have free access to such lab stations as art, cooking, theater, woodworking, ceramics and gardening, which encourage exploratory, experiential learning, innovation and creativity. In this free choice environment, children can roam from playing in the spacious Willowbrook playground, without the pressure of strict timelines, to creative “lab” stations, throughout the day.

There is growing evidence that self-directed learning and free play permit children to realize their optimum abilities to learn, grow and develop naturally and positively. (Research from Psychologist Peter Gray). Their play will be supervised but not structured by an adult. Play supervisors and facilitators will bring fun objects for the students to use in their play, such as large cardboard boxes, sheets, and small pieces of furniture. This is a lab environment, not a classroom- therefore, tinkering, creativity, observing, experimenting are encouraged, without the expectation of an end product.
